Directions to Galloway Cottage
St Medans, Monreith, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, DG8 9LJ
It is worth noting that there are pros and cons to bringing a car to Galloway Cottage. For some, it will be a necessity, both in terms of travelling to the cottage but also getting around whilst here. This will mean you have a wider range of places to explore. However, it is perfectly possible to come without a car, relying on trains to get you here and the local bus services plus the use of the cottage's bicycles.
It is a bit of a treck from the major cities of the UK, but you'll find the trip is well worth it!
There are many towns and places to visit along the way, so you might think about breaking up your journey slightly. If you are coming from the south, then you will drive through the picturesque Lake District. These great rollling hills and valleys are a wonder and make a lovely break to your travels. You could also stop off at the many lovely towns of Gretna Green, Dumfires, Castle Douglas, Kircudbright or Newton Stewart.
The closest you can get to Galloway Cottage by train is Stranraer train station. From here you can get a taxi which will take you roughly half an hour to reach the cottage.
Alternatively you can travel to Carlisle or Dumfries train stations and hire a car for a very reasonable price per week.
You can get some pretty cheap flights around the UK and if you fly to Glasgow (closest stop) it will give you a chance to see this very interesting scottish city. From here you can either hire a car or take the train to the stations mentioned above.
